  EASY 200-POW >>

A new power wonder, not only for the "easy world" >>

by Ronny Happ

Moeller has been offering the 30W switching mode power supply easy400-POW in the 24V voltage supply range for just over a year. As the easy range is continuously been expanded, we can now tell you about the latest addition to the power supply range. With its new easy200-POW power supply, Moeller is once again offering an additional component for clever solutions in the domestic, machinery and instrument applications.

The new easy200-POW 24V/6W switching mode power supply features a small size and an additional constant 12 V reference voltage. The device is offered in a space saving 2 SU enclosure and is only half the width of its big brother.

A significant advantage is offered by the wide input range which accepts input voltages from 85 to 264 VAC. The power supply can be operated with every commonly available single phase AC supply world-wide.

  Applications >>

With an output voltage of 24V and a power of 6W, it is possible to provide the supply for an easy6xx-DC and an additional expansion device (Fig. 2).

Figure 2:

All DC types of the easy family have two analog inputs (I7 and I8) with an input range from 0 to 10V. In this range, there are currently many applications which require an additional reference voltage source. Using the easy200-POW and its integral 12V reference voltage source, it is possible to reduce additional costs for the voltage supply with analog measurement signal processing.

The easy400-POW and easy200-POW primary switched-mode regulators can be found in the most varying applications such as:

  • industrial and building automation applications,
  • solar power engineering,
  • measurement and control engineering,
  • sensors,
  • supplying TTL based electronic circuits.

Overload and short-circuit behaviour >>

24V output:

The overload behaviour of the easy200-POW voltage supply allows the user to operate the device for a brief period at 1.5 times the rated output current. The output voltage of 24V remains constant. With a typical ambient temperature of 25°C, it is possible to operate permanently with this power output.

The voltage supply is also equipped with an automatic voltage recovery feature. It protects the power supply and the components which are being supplied during a short-circuit and prevents unnecessary destruction.

In such cases, the power supply will switch off and attempt to restart after a brief period. If the cause of the short-circuit has been remedied, the power supply operates normally. If the source of the fault still exists, the supply will switch off immediately. This will continue until the fault has been remedied.

  12V output:

The 12V reference voltage output also has an overload and short-circuit feature.

The supply also allows the user to operate the device for a brief period at 1.5 times the rated output current. However, after the specified nominal value of 20mA has been reached, the output voltage will drop constantly. This behaviour ensures that the load on the 12V output is not too great during a short-circuit. This characteristic of this output indicates that you are really dealing with a constant reference voltage source and not a component supply.

Enclosure and assembly >>

Regardless of their large range of application possibilities, the easy400-POW and easy200-POW voltage supplies are primarily intended for the easy range of devices. This is particularly evident by the typical easy enclosure design.

In the same way as all other devices of the easy range, the easy200 POW can be snapped onto a 35mm top-hat rail (German standard - DIN 50 022) or can be attached using 2 additional device brackets from the standard range of Moeller accessories.

A clear physical separation between the input area and the outputs of the easy200-POW reduces the risk of a possible mix up.

Electrical safety and standards >>

The electrical safety of man and machine is implemented by electrical isolation of the input and output sections of the power supply. The device is also protected by a fuse which will protect it from destruction during a fault.
