After the school leaving examination (Abitur) in 1976, I studied at the FH Elektrotechnik (College of Electrical Engineering) in Constance, Germany. The focal point of my studies was "Process automation". After qualifying as an engineer in 1980, I had to complete my 15 months of military service before I joined Klöckner-Moeller in Bonn on 2.1.1982, where I began to write embedded operating systems for PLCs and accumulate career experience. During this time, the development tools advanced so rapidly that the original Assembler coding was rapidly replaced by »C« based programming. DOS mutated to Windows, and at some point, I started to enjoy programming user interfaces: initially very faint-heartedly and still with an eye on my beloved Embedded systems in Visual Basic 3.0 on a 486 based PC running Windows 3.11, and later having advanced to Visual C++ under Win´95. The "EASY-SOFT 1.0" originated in 1999 from the initial user interface projects and was my first One-Man-Show user interface, to which a really dedicated and experienced hardware person wrote "The Easy400 unit was born."
Klöckner-Moeller became Moeller and the one man development team has developed into a real four-man team who virtuously perform their tasks with the Microsoft-VisualStudio(R) and SourceSave(R), and who are represented externally by a lively project manager who has the necessary lobby. On the hardware side of the project, a whole handful of people continue to work arduously on the device family. Life can be so easy, particularly when the spirit of co-operation at work is as good as that which we have in our »easy-Show«.
In the second half of the 80s, I met Sabine who I promptly married. I am now 46 years old and have three children (13, 10, 8) and have a small sound studio, in which you will often find all kinds of people who know very little about electronics and software, but are very creative in their own way. Working with people with artistic ability can be lots of fun. And sometimes there are the little successes to be celebrated for example, when a Demo tape or a CD is completed...

I was born in Altentreptow (in the eastern German state of Mecklenburg - Vorpommern) on the 25.06.1961. After my training as an electrical fitter (Sparky), I advanced to be a senior electrician. Initially, I worked maintaining and repairing presses. I worked for many years for a company called Umformtechnik in Erfurt.
In the course of attaining further qualifications as a senior electrician, I started to work for Muhr und Bender KG Attendorn at the factory in Weißensee (www.mubea.com). Since my time at this company, I have been involved in the programming of Moeller PLCs and EASY. My tasks primarily involve providing support and maintenance for production lines producing steel springs. I am also continuously involved in new projects which include programming tasks including visualisation, hydraulic and motor axis control, pneumatic drives and the associated mechanical elements. In my spare time I try to play Volleyball once a week. I manage to run three times a week which helps to blow off steam.
And yes, I am the moderator on an Internet page! I find it very satisfying to assist people who are interested in technical issues. Even though I spend a lot of time on my PC at home, my wife and daughter understand and provide a lot of support.

After the school leaving examination (Abitur) in 1996, I had concluded my education. Directly afterwards, I completed my civil service with the German Red Cross. As the pay which you received there from the state could only be described as "peanuts", I made a few DM’s on the side as a pizza baker in order to support my hobbies. After I had completed my civil service, I was sponsored by Moeller GmbH to attend the University of Cooperative Education in Mannheim to study electrical engineering. As the courses which I attended there were very demanding in terms of time and effort, I had to neglect my various hobbies in this time. I gave up playing the trumpet and my active table tennis activities also ceased. But maybe, it was just because of the large distance between Mannheim and the clubs where I was a member.
In Autumn 2000, I successfully completed my studies in electrical engineering with my speciality in the area of automation engineering. Since then, I have worked as a developer at Moeller GmbH in Bonn. After having entered this area with the development of a switching mode power supply, I am now involved in the area of communication fieldbus technology with easy. These are primarily the CANopen, DeviceNet, and more recently the Profibus DP field busses.

As you can see from my address, I live in the town of Lauf an der Pegnitz. I live there together with my wife and daughter. Lauf an der Pegnitz is approx. 18 km from Nuremberg.
I have worked in the field of automation since 1980, and work for Moeller GmbH since 1993 in the Sales Region-South (Bavaria) in the area of automation device sales and distribution.
After joining Moeller GmbH, I was involved in areas of application which were new to me with the high performance K-bus, PC-interfacing card and high performance PLCs. New customers were acquired very quickly in the industrial systems area. Since the point in time that these PLCs from Moeller GmbH can be programmed conform to IEC 1131-3, the investment made by the user is an investment in the future.
I would like to talk with you about modern solutions which are possible in conjunction with PLCs! You can contact me via my private homepage.
About the forum: The idea behind the EASY forum has filled me with such enthusiasm, that my assistance was never in doubt from the very inception. I have continuously indicated the existence of this forum in all my publications and correspondence. In order to assist the EASY concept, a small booklet which I produced concerning EASY was published together with Hüthig&Pflaum - Verlag.
My wish for the future? I hope that the idea of this forum will be actively supported with submissions from colleagues, customers, those interested in the topic and trainees! It is a fantastic opportunity to learn from the experience of others, to avoid mistakes and to increase and pass on your own special knowledge.

In 1989 my mother asked me: »What do you want to be son?« The question was valid as my time at school was coming to a close. Unfortunately, I did not have the answer and had to apply for positions as a .... confectioner, policeman, salesman, locksmith and finally as a power electronics technician. I had never before had anything to do with power electronics which was probably the reason which impressed Fuji Magntics in Cleaves. They offered me an apprenticeship as a power electronics technician which pleased my mother and placed me in a state of panic, as I did not know the difference between current and voltage. But all my fears were unfounded. I spent three and a half satisfying and very informative years with Fuji and left the company qualified as a power electronics technician to attend the college of engineering (FH).
My life as a student began in 1995! Super, I had heard so much about those wild student parties and was really looking forward to them. The reality of the situation caught up with me very quickly. The course of studies at the FH Münster was very demanding and there was hardly ever time to have a beer with friends.
My work placement semester was spent in Zurich in Switzerland. At ABB DaimlerChrysler Transportation AG, it was the first time that I was exposed to software and I developed a diagnostics tool with the aid of MATLAB. I decided to go to England to improve my knowledge of the English language. I studied at the University of Portsmouth and wrote my thesis on the topic: Development of a simulation environment for adaptive control circuits with the aid of MATLAB and Simulink.
After a year of »Fish and Chips« I moved back to Münster via Frankfurt (Work experience at Continental Teves) where I successfully completed my studies in 2000 as an electrical engineer. I have now worked for more than two years in Bonn for Moeller and develop the EASY-SOFT in a team which has now increased to four.
The idea for the easy-Forum has developed from the need to not only create Internet pages which the »world does not need«. After websites such as www.rekeu.de (greetings Markus) with a total of two visitors a day, I am delighted to have created a discussion platform which deals with easy together with enthusiastic easy fans. Currently, about 2000 visitors a month »stumble upon« the easy-Forum.net pages (August 2002).
